Kentucky’s own Jim James was the musical guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon earlier this year. James, a Louisville, Kentucky native, is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter for the rock band My Morning Jacket. My Morning Jacket has made numerous appearances at music festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, has received two Grammy nominations in the best alternative album category, and James has been listed in Rolling Stone as one of the “20 New Guitar Gods.” His debut solo album, “Regions of Light and Sound of God,” was released February 5, 2013.
James is one of many Kentucky musicians featured in A Few Honest Words: The Kentucky Roots of Popular Music by Jason Howard. A Few Honest Words delves into the musical umbrella of genres encompassing Kentucky musicians and explores how the culture, landscape, and traditions of Kentucky influence their music. These artists, like their musical ancestors, introduce the styles and sounds of the Bluegrass State to the wider world.
